Coke at dinner

I spent $175 at Costco today. All foods, no gadgets. There was a wireless oven thermometer that would tell you (remotely) when your roast is ready. Good blend of geekiness + momness. I almost got it, but bro said no. I listen to him.

The new shipment of coke came with this really nice design on the cans. I liked it enough to take pictures of it while everyone else started eating.

If you go to the Coke website, while the site it self is pretty bad ( it’s spinning itself in the background as I type this), they have a pretty good designer-ish graphical theme going on right now. Nice wallpapers. Almost like the new Paul McCartney iPod commercial you can find on the iTunes website. Apple does it better tho.

Speaking of Apple.. It’s that time of year again where I consider getting the white notebook (ibook, now macbook) + ipod deal. Forth year in a row now, I think. Maybe it’s a ritual I’ll continue for years to come. They look really nice as long as you don’t go to the store and touch one.

Tri-Weekly Update

I have to post to make the deadline I set three weeks ago. One can also argue that I wanted to fulfill the prophecy I made three weeks ago, so I resisted blogging for three weeks.

I’ve been watching 24 season 2. Few years ago, one of the slashdot featured articles mentioned (Spoiler Alert (?)–>) that in 24, all good guys use Macs, and all bad guys use Dell. So that was that. They’ve ruined it for me. I knew the terrorist suspect was a good guy cuz he had a Powerbook. But it’s ok, there’s more mysteries that can’t be solved with laptops, and I’m not done watching yet.

If it weren’t for the harddrive speed and space limitations, I think I could easily just get a laptop and use it as my main computer. Saves a lot of money not needing a desktop all the time. Right now I still need a place to “settle”.

I got new tires and new spark plugs, and a new antenna. It feels good. It was so much money that I’m feeling a little numb right now. Best time to buy more stuff. The car servicing industry is still an old one, so unlike online-shopping, where you can usually comparison-shop and find the best deals without any compromises, you pay dearly in exchange for convenience when it comes to cars fixing. $100 per hour of labour. All I could do was sigh and sign the receipt.

Pirates of the Caribbean. All three are so good, for slightly different reasons. The goods out weights the bads.

My DS hinge cracked. Had no idea when it happened. I thought I got one of the good ones.

I got bored today and almost wanted to buy some VC games on the Wii.. Resident Evil 4 Comes out later this month. Maybe I’ll get that instead.

Bi-Weekly Update

I predict the next blog will be a Tri-Weekly Update. I hope I’m wrong.

Apple & Shopping

Nothing much new but their WWDC is coming soon. Very exciting indeed. Plus June is iPhone month. I like cool gadgets no matter how crappy ppl say it may be, unless it turns out crappy. It’s something I’ll like but never buy.
What I want is a chance to replace my desktop. But I have a really nice (3-year-old) monitor that I can’t part with. The Samsung 172T. It’s got awesome view angles, even better than some of the new ones sold today. I did a lot of research and paid a lot of money for it. Too bad the iMac comes with a non-optional monitor.

You should never cheap out and buy things based solely on low price. Because it may not live up to the quality you want, and you’ll end up spending more than if you were to buy a good item to begin with.

Saw something like that taped to a counter in a store once. It makes sense, but the fact that it’s on a store counter makes it suspicious. I’ve found it to be true tho. Everytime I cheap out, I end up buying more and end up not saving money. And then I try hard to forget about the money I lost. so I can’t remember any examples to say here.

tired. have to post some pictures later.

Weekly update

It’s my Friday blog again. I looked in the mirror and saw two eyes full of veins, but I need to finish this before going to sleep, so I went to sleep and finished this the day after.

A chip

If you’ve ever seen “Serial Experiment Lain”, you might remember a scene where Lain’s mom opens the door, receives a package, sends the postman off in the polite Japanese manner, opens up the packages, sees a little IC chip, and licks her own lips in anticipation. This was about 4 years ago, and at the time, it just seemed over the top. Who gets pleasure from an IC chip? They never explained what the chip was for.

I haven’t installed mine.

Dinner

While grocery shopping today I had bad luck and went into a line served by the newbie cashier. Everything was extremely slow so I had time to notice that the mother of two in front of me had the exact same type of Sunflower Mastercard I have. Which made me realize that, this particular design might have been targeted at moms. Neat. There were other designs like the Beach (for the vacation hungry) or Black Globe (for commerce students).

The cashier was a mess. For every item that doesn’t have a barcode (like a chunk of ginger), she types in random numbers that shows up INVALID. She’ll try a few other ones until she gets it right. As long as the machine beeps, she’s happy. I thought, I’m a patient guy. I can do this. Broccoli showed up as “Brussel Sprouts”, so I told her its wrong. She doesn’t know how to undo, so we had to wait for the neighbouring pro-cashier to come and help when she had a moment. Carrots showed up as “Celery Sticks”. I said nothing.

Taiwanese beef noodle takes at least an hour to cook, prep time extra. And there’s so many ingredients that goes into the pot. That’s why I don’t do it often. I was just gonna make some curry today, but then the company cafe served curry for lunch. So I felt the need to make something else. My noodle always turn out with a low soup level. Because the more soup you want, the more [various sauces, but basically soy sauce] you’ll need. I use short-ribs. They remain tender even without a master cook.

Dinner

I liked this picture because of the Honey Nut Cherrio in it.

Spider Man 3

It’s good not because it’s an action movie. It’s good because of the characters and acting. It’s on-par with the second one. Also saw the trailer for “At World’s End”. Pirates are so cool.

Oh right, I have to pluck weeds.
