SSBB - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
One thing I didn’t like from the early screenshots of SSBB was the material they used to make Mario’s blue overall. He was a pixelated man (NES), and then a cartoonie man (N64), but he had BLUE overalls. Blue as in, RGB blue. 8-bit color blue. In SSBB, tho, He wore texture mapped jeans. That’s just wrong.

I was hoping they’d come to their senses and change it. But it never happened. Now he wears jeans. And he has more fingers, apparently.

Other than that, I was fortunate to have tried the game itself. They kept the same system, same announcer, and same “Giant Glove” boss at the end of single player mode. Bunch of new characters, many are new to me. More are waiting to be unlocked. The story mode tho, was really different. And I was happy to find that the story-telling cut scenes were all speech-less, no language barriers. Sometimes things happen while fighting that require some reading tho, and my Japanese reading skill is too slow to make sense out of those. During one fight a guy called “Mr.Restart” (I think) came out of nowhere and said something. I had no idea what was happening, plus the fight was still going on. Maybe next time I’ll try to pause or use the in-game camera.. if possible.
That’s very interesting about the jeans. The thought that I had was, Nintendo probably always intended the blue overall to be jeans, but never had the processor power to do it. It only makes sense for it to be jeans, since that’s the stereotypical plumbers wear.
I actually think it’s quite nice.
Processing power isn’t the reason! They did it right in Mario Galaxy. Same Processor, different pants:

I agree with the jeans. It would have been totally hard to achieve with a 8 bit NES 24 years ago. Hehehe. I think its quite a detail.
