Jonbu the baker

i’m so slow

Post office Guy

“Height plus waist is 3 metres”

“Height plus width plus length is 3 metres?”

“Yneah, well, you know, just think of it like a person. Height plus the waist is 3 metres”

(cher, he doesn’t know what I’m asking)

“20kg?”

“Yneah, you know, 20kg.”

Just now i dug deeper into the post office link and found the Canadian limit ito be 30kgs.

The guy did sound kind of drunk and fishy. I shall believe what I want to believe.

Working Away

My final presentation is coming up in 2 hours or so. Don’t really feel like doing anything, so I started thinking about my packages.
Last night I saw Ben’s printout, and I’m pretty confident that I remembered the formula.

A = 1.5m
A + (B+C)x2 = 3m

But it did say the size and weight limits vary by country, so I decided to give the Post office a call. (And I felt like calling someone)

Instead of reading out the formula like an Engineer, he asked me to think of the packages as people.
” 20kg. The height limit is 1.5 metres. And the guy’s waist plus height is limited to 3 metres.”
So it’s actually 20kg and not 30kg as the website listed. I thought Canada would deal with large items that other countries won’t touch.

And it seems my giant box won’t fit the description either. However! I do have a slightly smaller box sitting right beside me. I will bring it back and give it a measure.

Update:
I saw the Kirin 903 strips at Sanyo Conbini during lunch. But I just now I went up for Pocari sweat, and the stripes were all gone! Either it’s discontinued or sold out.
And why don’t the company namacha have those cute keitai decorations? I want to suspect the two kaching ladies, but i think it shows how old the namacha stock here is.

Second last Sunday

Sunday started out good.

When I went to the Hashima Eki Combini to grab my routine Pocari Sweat. The addidas strip caught my eyes. It’s a new drink from Kirin. Another pocari clone, except this time they actually tried something completely new, instead of trying to vary the amino acid formula. I tested it and really liked it. But when I tried to find that special taste in it, I couldn’t.

The day went by pretty normally until I saw some Doraemon toys at the Loft. They were only 315 yen, and you get your chances at one of the 6 delicately designed and crafted display toy depicting one of many Doraemon movies’ famous scenes.

They all looked pretty good, except for the yellow melcolored doraemon, so I went ahead and bought one. And It turned out to be this.

Some stoned guy and stupid dogs with their tongues sticking out. I mean, where the hell is Doraemon?! And whats that golden steering wheel on his head? It’s worse than that yellow Doraemon.
I was almost going to throw this into the garbage.

Now that I wasted money, I have to make it worth while by making it into a lj post. So here’s some pictures. This piece of toy stinks. Literally and figuratively. It looks grand in these pictures, but you should see how I treat it behind camera. My Pocari bottle gets better care.

Where is Doraemon? I have to go back next week and get another one.

Just another friday

It seems a lot has been happening since I last talked about the bigger picture. I switched to Canon, I have 2 weeks left here, and I feel like a new haircut again.

The sky is always bluer on a Canon. The Sony always makes everything else blue.

Last night we went out for our grand finale dinner at the nearby Yakiniku shop that we’ve never been to for the 10 months we’re here.

Ben with his usual planning wisdom brought his namacha panda along. This picture does not do justice (It’s not pure white).

I grabbed ben’s macro lens and played with it a bit. Everything looks crazy through it, but everyone looks surprsingly usual.

Lots of fun with mini P.

190ml coke. I’m curious if uji was taking a picture. Could be good lj-icon material.

Canadian blueberry PAfe. This is so good. I need more of this when I go back to canada.

Sakura, Sakura, Ima wa wa wa wa wa

Last weekend I went to the Anpachi sakura festival twice. Mostly for the food.
Shoot, I’m hungry now. Should’ve typed this after dinner.

Mtarashi Dankos are great. These are grilled mochi-balls. They look really filling, and there were sold in 5’s. (me and was gonna split 5) I was scared of it at first, but ended up getting 3 of them throughout the day.

The Canal is pretty. Better than the one me and went to in Nagoya. The One in Nagoya is exactly the same as the Anpachi one, scaled up by a factor of two, except the amount of water.

I’m not a mechanical engineer. I was gonna be.

Saw bunch of kids.

And shirley.

Buds are cute. They remind me of the Mitarashi

Here is the light-up at Nagoya. Can’t remember the exact name of the place. Carrying a tripod paid off.
