Jonbu the baker

i’m so slow

an entry

I watched Pirates of the Caribbean last night.

Jonny Depp was great. As a celebrity I actually don’t know him. I know him only as Edward Scissorhands. In both movies he arguably had heavy make-up on. So I actually don’t know how he really looks like.
Another movie full of sloppy people. I usually don’t like these sort of movies, except Indiana Jones, he was sloppy with style. This one was different tho, it was very comedic.

I watched the Subway (HK) today.

A really warm movie. Some moments did touch me. More so than any movie I’ve seen lately.
Those tiles made for the visually impared? I never knew how that was actually used. Now I know.

It’s a little late, but recently I’ve switched from what-can-i-do-in-japan mode to what-have-i-done-in-japan mode.
Nothing extraordinary. I’ve probably travelled more than an average Japanese person. Tried less than half the food I wanted to try in Japan. Endulged on Japan’s sweet consumerism.

Chit, I just saw a mosquito. Gonna have a hard time sleeping tonight.

Can’t Sleep

Somehow my bed time became later and later as the week progresses. Like walking in mud you go deeper and deeper.

LOTR3. I think i expected too much out of it. Before I went in, this is what i knew about it:

  • 11 Academy Award Nominations.
  • #2 Top grossing movie of all times in the world.
  • Japanese girls come out weeping from the emotional ending.

Things that I got out of the movie:

  • Sir Ian McKellen is a great actor
  • Legolas is COOL
  • People in this movie are too often dirty
  • Let’s all die more than once

(Legolas out did himself in this one. He is too cool)

So I went in thinking, “Okay, there’s at least one scene that will be very emotional, so I’ll just let it wash through me. I won’t hold back anything.”

Near the end of the movie, during a sad, calm scene, I started hearing sniffing.

“sniff”
“sniff”
“sniff” “sniff”

The process of thought that went through my brain:

  1. “Hm?” (whats that sound?)
  2. “ohh..” (it’s people sniffing.)
  3. “what de..” (wait, why are so many people sniffing?)
  4. “ooOOoh” (they’re crying… this is IT* , the crying scene)
  5. “Hm.” (howcome i don’t feel a thing?)

my eyes were red and watery, but from staring at the screen for 3 hours, and yawning.

my rationalization: all the emotional scenes are built upon the strong friendship between the characters. i don’t feel that friendship
my god im fainting, i have to sleep

Darkness

Recently I don’t turn the light on anymore. My room right now is illuminated solely by the computer screen.
There are so many thoughts that I could have put into writing, but I don’t want to. They’re easy to write but hard to read.
This could be a follow up post to that Pessimist post earlier..
but nah.

Be sad. Life will be better.

I am a Pessimist. I’m pretty sure. There’s no way around it.

People that knows me barely thinks I’m a Optimist, because it’s always so easy to encourage people than discourage them (for me, anyways). And, it’s so easy to avoid those Optimistic encouragements by just pretending I’m optimistic.

“I failed miserably, but no worries, I’m feeling better already”

“That’s great!”

There are 651,000 hits on Google for the word “Optimist”, and 178,000 hits for the word “Pessimist”. I’m sure there are more of us pessimists out there, we’re just all too depressed to write anything about it, or to make websites about us.

“What’s the use? It won’t make us happier.”

The first day I was in Tokyo, (a bright, exciting place, no doubt) I was already like

“Oh this is so sad, I’ll be leaving in a few days.”

I just realized recently that I may actually like to be depressed. I like moody music. I love depressing movies. I like to have these sad thoughts swirling in my brain.

Seeing a metropolis, and seeing the endless variety of people, is depressing.

Here we are, sharing the same train ride. You are looking at me, I’m looking at you. We will never get to know each other. We will move on to our own lives before the train reaches its destination. We will part sooner than we meet.

So I was in Tokyo, not just being excited, but being dreaming-ly melancholy.

If only I could get a MD player, listen to sad music while being sad on the street of Tokyo. That’d be so awesome.

Good time in Tokyo

I was feeling mighty hungry, and thought about calling it a day before i start to eat, since I already brushed my teeth. Few minutes later i found myself eating peaches out of a ceremic bowl. More minutes after two pieces of peach I found myself eating Seaweed Salt Potato Chips.

“Mr.Snack”

Thanks to the invention of canned fruits, I am able to start up on this post.

“Mr.Yamanote”

The Yamanote line of Tokyo is what every visitor is familiar with. It’s the circular train that takes you to most major areas. Seeing that particular shade of green anywhere will instantly remind me of Tokyo.

“Mr.Doraemon”

Yes, he’s in my arm, smiling happily. I was probably smiling happily too.

“Mr.SD.FlexTion”

I was into these robots when I was a kid. I didnt read Japanese nor English back then. So I had no idea what their names were.

“Ms.Angler”

Note it’s not Mr.Angler.
*Put on face*

Females are the dominant gender in Angler culture.
Mr.Angler is really tiny, and he’s stuck to the female as a parasite.

*Removes face*

“Mr.Chestnuts”

“Chestnuts are my life. Please buy some.”

“Mr.Catch-Me-If-You-Can”

It’s impossible to catch these things. The catcher claws are so weak. These Doraemons are already laughing at you before you put the coin in. Incidently, I tried it once, and got laughed at. documented the whole humuliating process with her Canon Ixy 400.

“Mr.John”

This is me. We ate at a Italian resturaunt near the Shinjuku station with great views. I was told that so many awkward things passed behind me on the road.

“Mr.Tokyo Tower”

He is everywhere. Tokyo is his turf.

“Mr.Whatever”

It’s exciting even to cross a street in Tokyo. I could easily spend hours swimming in people on a Sunday afternoon.

That’s pretty much my randomly chosen highlights of my short 3-day Tokyo trip. (Oh ya, I forgot those LaQua rollercoaster pics and the gloomy chexpo. already covered them in her post. I should be okay).
